Faulty engine/engine problems
A damaged engine cannot work properly and, in turn, consumes more fuel. Now you might think that when the car has only driven a few kilometers, the engine must not fail.
The engine may be fine, but key components contributing to the combustion cycle may be faulty.
For example, a faulty spark plug or O2 sensor in a petrol engine and a dirty fuel injector in a diesel engine can lead to low fuel mileage due to high consumption of fuel. Your engine may run normally for a while but the fuel will not burn efficiently.
This will eventually cause your car to consume more fuel than usual.
